IELTSライティング - タスク１で使える表現

IELTSのライティング - タスク１では、与えられたグラフやチャートに関して１５０語以上で説明します（約２０分）。

グラフの数値の上がり下がりを示す場合に"increase"や"decrease"ばかり使っている人はいませんか？

高得点を獲得するために、次のような多彩な表現を使って文章を作りましょう。

例文１：There was a dramatic rise in the value of stocks on 20th August.

例文２：There has been a steady decline in the number of visitors since 2007.

上記の例文のように、"There was a"もしくは"There has been a"という形に以下の形容詞と名詞を組み合わせることで、

多様な表現を生み出すことができます。

  • There was a 形容詞+名詞 in 2000.

（例：There was a sharp increase in production in 1995.）

 

または

 

  • There has been a 形容詞+名詞 since 2000.

（例：There has been a steady decrease in subscribers since the peak of 2 million in 1990.）

【形容詞】

  • sharp

  • sudden

  • rapid

  • abrupt

  • dramatic

  • steep

  • significant

  • steady

  • considerable

  • marked

  • slight

  • gentle

  • gradual

【増加を表す名詞】

  • increase

  • rise

  • surge

  • growth

  • peak

【減少を表す名詞】

  • fall

  • decrease

  • decline

  • dip

 

上記のような「形容詞＋名詞」だけではなく、「動詞＋副詞」という形も使いましょう。

（例：The divorce rate has risen steadily since the 1980s.）

【増加を表す動詞】

  • rise

  • increase

  • surge

  • grow

  • peak

  • rocket

  • skyrocket

【減少を表す動詞】

  • fall

  • decrease

  • decline

  • dip

  • dive

  • plunge

  • plummet

 

【副詞】

  • sharply

  • suddenly

  • rapidly

  • abruptly

  • dramatically

  • significantly

  • steadily

  • considerably

  • markedly

  • slightly

  • gently

  • gradually

  • wildly
